Frankfurt – Four thousands Lufthansa pilots planned to hold a four-day walkout, that disrupted flights for thousands of people, cut short their strike for 12 hours when the union and the airline agreed to hold talks, both sides said.
This strike, however, was just the tip of the chaos iceberg. Also on February 22, five unions that represent air traffic controllers from France announced they would hold their own strike starting February 23. The British Airways P.L.C., meanwhile, also faces new threats of cabin crew strikes, when their union made an announcement that its members voted in favor of a walkout.
About 10,000 passengers whose flights were delayed were greatly upset by the pilots’ strike. In anticipation of the strike, Lufthansa had earlier cancelled its regular flight from Philly to Frankfurt, through Thursday, February 25, and instead booked passengers on US Airways Group’s daily flight from Philadelphia, and in other carriers vying from Newark, N.J., according to Jennifer Janzen, the airline’s spokesperson.
